ACDS' primary purpose is to promote education and research in the area of contact dermatitis and occupational dermatology.

In addition to ACDS' Annual Meeting and Mid-Year Meetings, the Society encourages young dermatologists and researchers with a number of awards and programs including:

• Alexander A Fisher Resident Award honoring top resident presenters at Annual Meeting  
• Mentoring Awards to nurture young leaders in the subspecialty  
• Maibach Travel Awards for presenters at the Annual Meeting who come from outside the US to encourage a global exchange of information 
• Clinical Research Fellowships for young investigators in the subspecialty 
• Education Outreach programs which provide short education programs to dermatology programs and state and other dermatological societies
