ACDS Alternate Delegate to the AMA

Call for Applications - Deadline September 15, 2022

As previously announced, The American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates approved the American Contact Dermatitis Society (ACDS) to hold a seat in the AMA House of Delegates at its past annual meeting in Chicago. This entitles ACDS to appoint a delegate and an alternate delegate to represent the society at the AMA.

The ACDS is currently seeking applications for the ACDS Alternate Delegate to the AMA position. This position will serve in collaboration with our current AMA delegate, Dr. Bruce Brod. The mission of the alternate delegate position is to represent the ACDS in the AMA House of Delegates, as well as represent the field of dermatology as a member of the Dermatology Section Council. Both the delegate and alternate delegate have an opportunity to lead at the AMA and have a voice in the broader house of medicine.

In addition, the delegate and alternate delegate are expected to contribute to the development of policy at the AMA. The delegates will work closely with the ACDS Health Policy Committee and the Dermatology Section Council prior to each AMA meeting in developing an approach and strategy to the proposed resolutions and board reports that will be discussed during the AMA House of Delegates Annual and Interim meetings. Delegates are expected to communicate back to the ACDS leadership, board, and membership after each meeting.

Mandatory qualifications:

  • ABMS or AOA Board Eligibility in Dermatology
  • Full voting ACDS member in good standing
  • Member of the AMA
  • Two letters of recommendation from ABMS or AOA board eligible dermatologists (preferably leaders in the field of dermatology)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in health policy at the local, state, or federal level
  • Leadership training and leadership skills
  • Leadership roles within organized medicine
  • Team building skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Collaborative work style

Time Commitment:

  • Two AMA meetings annually in June and November. Each meeting usually lasts from Friday until Wednesday (5 to 6 days twice a year)
  • Two virtual conferences yearly with ACDS Health Policy Committee – 1 hour each
  • Two virtual conferences yearly with Dermatology Section Council – 1.5 hours each
  • Review of draft policies – Approximately 3 hours, twice a year

Term

  • 5 years – renewable per board approval
  • Start date – October 15, 2022
